“Hot can be cool, and cool can be hot, and each can be both. But hot or cool, man, jazz is jazz.”- Louis Armstrong
Tim Paco - String Bass & Sousaphone
Tim Paco is a hard-swinging, versatile musician
whose driving bass lines add to the solid foundation that makes the
Mission City Hot Rhythm Cats one of the hottest and most swinging bands
in the Southwest. Tim is also a skilled tubist and will frequently
lend his skill on Sousaphone to provide an authentic New Orleans flavor
to the Mission City Hot Rhythm Cats’ performances.
Tim has worn many hats in his musical career; from performing as a
symphonic bassist for The Austin Symphony, to composer, educator and
clinician for several High School and Youth Orchestras.
Tim’s 22 year career in New Orleans included performances with Brazilian
Troubadour, Ricardo Crespo, Tony Green and Gypsy Jazz, The Rites of
Swing, Va-Va Voom, Bart Ramsey, Netti Van, guitarist John Rankin and
Uncle Shim Sham. Tim has also lent his skill on the Sousaphone to
Pete Fountain’s Half-Fast Walking Club, The Ninth Ward Marching Band,
D.R.’s All-star Brass Band, Fritzel’s Jazz Club house band, “A Night at
the Columns with John Rankin and friends”, and many guest appearances
with a wide variety of ensembles and bands in New Orleans and
surrounding Parishes.
In 2005, hurricane Katrina finally inspired Tim to move back to his
hometown, San Antonio, TX. We’re sure glad he decided to stay!
Another aspect of Tim’s talent is that of a chef. His culinary
artistry has not gone unnoticed, particularly by the fortunate members
of the Mission City Hot Rhythm Cats who have had the good fortune to
experience Tim’s incredibly delicious creations first-hand!
